Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient healing art that is thousands of years old. It is considered one of the most holistic medicines today. Signs and symptoms are addressed in relation to the body as a whole, comprising body, mind, and spirit. This is what makes TCM such a unique medical practice its holism. In traditional Chinese medicine, disease and pathology are viewed as a product of imbalance. The body is viewed as having an innate powerful energy called Qi that promotes health and well-being. If the Qi is properly functioning, health and wellness will flourish. No disease can be present in a balanced state. On the other hand, if the body is in a state of chaos and imbalance, disease is sure to follow, it is just a matter of time.
Our Services
At the Acupuncture Center we specialize in treating the whole person through the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, often also combined with spinal manipulation, dietary adjustments, physical activity, and massage. Once considered “folk medicine” in the Western world, acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Medicine in general, is now known to be a highly developed, systematic, recorded, researched, and peer reviewed form of medicine with several disciplines that continues to evolve. We commonly treat patients with conditions treated unsuccessfully by traditional Western Medicine and, in fact, receive many referrals from local medical practitioners. Conditions such as low back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, arthritis, and vertebral disc syndrome, to name a few, have been successfully treated and in many cases surgeries avoided through the use of acupuncture often combined with chiropractic and herbal remedies. We also work in partnership with primary care physicians to help reduce or eliminate patient medications for conditions such as fibromyalgia, depression, migraine headaches, sleep disorders, GERD, IBS, and many more.
In both of our clinics our massage therapists bring expertise and continued healing to our family of patients. All work in union with the Doctor’s diagnosis through the use of Acupressure, Shiatsu, Soft Tissue, Deep tissue, Thai Massage and much more, to fulfill the needs of your specific condition.
Acupressure involves placing physical pressure by hand, elbow, or with the aid of various devices on different acupuncture points on the surface of the body. Shiatsu uses the fingers and palm of the hand to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health, contributing to the healing of specific illnesses. Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than more classic forms of massage. Thai massage is also called Thai yoga massage, because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Many people say Thai massage is like doing yoga without any work. Massage therapy helps to relax the mind, body and spirit, providing a feeling of peace and aiding in the maintenance of balance. It eases muscular tension and sooths the nervous system thereby aiding in the reduction of stress-related conditions, such as headache, muscular aches and pains, palpitations and high blood pressure. Many of the conditions we treat respond more quickly and thoroughly with the addition of massage.
Lifestyle changes, such as exercise, are also commonly recommended as a part of your treatment. Physical activity promotes improved cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and flexibility while at the same time triggering the production of endorphins which alleviate pain and improve mental attitude. Regular exercise also increases your HDL (good) cholesterol, helps lower your total cholesterol, and helps lower your blood pressure. Exercise can also help alleviate stress and make you more productive, so choose something that you enjoy and stick with it. The Acupuncture Centers in the Kansas City area provide information on convenient studios and gyms in the area that offer a wide assortment of options for physical activity, as does The Acupuncture Center of Omaha. The most commonly recommended exercise is the exercise that is the most enjoyable, convenient, and beneficial for nearly everyone - yoga. You’ve probably heard that yoga is good for you and maybe were afraid to try it or felt that you didn’t have the flexibility. At the Acupuncture Center of Omaha we offer several local Yoga options - ask about the one that is right for you.
The many physical benefits include increased flexibility, increased range of motion to muscles and joints, and increased strength and muscular tone all of which help prevent many types of back and joint pain. Yoga also introduces you to calming meditation allowing you to forget the stressors of the day and finally relax and find perspective.
If you have further questions we offer free consultations by appointment. Please call any of our clinics or contact us via e-mail.
